As your baby gets older, you eventually find yourself in a situation where you need to purchase a toddler flat bed. How did this happen? Was it not just yesterday that she took up little less than half the crib? When did he get tall enough to climb out of the crib himself? As you look back on the past couple of months or years, it’s also time to look forward to the next step: a toddler bed. There are plenty of options for you (and possibly even your toddler) to choose from, and maybe you’ve narrowed it down to a floor bed. Toddler floor beds are bed frames that sit directly on the floor, with no elevated legs or platform. Toddler beds are designed to fit crib mattress, which measure around 27 ¼” by 51 ⅝” and are no thicker than 6.” This means that you can take the crib mattress from an existing crib and use it in the toddler bed. However, this does also mean that you will have to upsize to a twin bed in the future.
Toddler floor beds are often recommended as part of the Montessori method, which is an education system that advocates having everything child-accessible to encourage learning and independence. Whether or not you try out the Montessori method, toddler floor beds still offer many benefits. Toddler floor beds are designed so that your child can get in and out of bed easily. The close distance to the floor means that there is a much lower chance of injury from falling out of bed. Structural durability is also less of a concern with toddler floor beds, so you won’t have to worry about kids jumping on the bed either. Many toddler floor beds also double up as toys that children can involve in their play.
This is a classic and simple toddler bed frame made of solid wood. Customize this bed by adding your own decorations like fairy lights, pom poms, tassels, curtains, garlands etc.Whilst the beams across the top contribute to the overall house look of the bed, be aware that the bed is not sturdy enough for your child to climb onto or swing around on the roof part. This bed frame is also available in a twin size.
Themed Toddler Floor Beds
A tried-and-true method of transitioning your toddler from crib to bed is to entice them with a favorite character. When they see the bed covered in their favorite Disney or movie character, they’re bound to be much more willing to use it. Pair with matching sheets for the ultimate themed bed!
Delta Children is a best-selling brand in the children’s bedroom furniture market. It comes as no surprise that Delta Children has a large selection of toddler floor beds each with different characters. Most themed toddler floor beds come in either solid wood, or a plastic rail version. Both styles of bed are designed for toddlers 15 months or older. With the wooden Delta Children floor beds, the sides are higher, generally always above the height of the mattress. As for the plastic Delta Children floor beds, the sides are lower, usually aligned with the mattress, with raised sides only on the upper section to act as railings. Some parents will prefer the plastic toddler beds for this reason, as children are less likely to hit themselves on sides and edges that are even with the mattress. As these are floor beds, be aware that the beds will not have bed slats or a solid bed base. With the wooden version, there are only three wooden slats threaded through the fabric. The plastic version also only comes with a thin, flat mattress covering on the bottom. In other words, there is only a thin piece of fabric between the floor and the bottom of the mattress. With many of the Delta Children plastic toddler floor beds, the parts will come plain, and you will have to stick the provided decals on yourself.
